Commonwealth Day 2017

Commonwealth Day is the annual celebration of the Commonwealth of Nations held on the second Monday in March, and marked by a multi-faith service in Westminster Abbey, normally attended by Queen Elizabeth II as Head of the Commonwealth, with the Commonwealth Secretary-General and Commonwealth High Commissioners in London. The Queen delivers an address to the Commonwealth, broadcast throughout the world.

What is it all about?

The Commonwealth supports international efforts for peace and is committed to the security, development and prosperity of all Commonwealth nations. They condemn acts of terrorism in all forms due to the severe and damaging effect it can have on society and social stability, not to mention its capacity to lead to loss of human life.

Sadly, there are many conflicts happening all over the world today. As you might imagine, keeping the peace is not an easy task, however preventing and resolving conflicts on a small scale has the potential to prevent much larger, full-scale wars.
